45 Units of S11-2000kVA/35kV Transformers for a 200MW Solar Farm in Germany
Project Overview
HBTP supplied 45 units of S11-2000/35 transformers for a 200MW utility-scale solar farm in Bavaria, Germany. The project represents a significant deployment in the solar energy sector, requiring transformers engineered for reliable operation under demanding conditions.
Project Background
Germany's Energiewende (energy transition) has driven massive growth in solar capacity. This 200MW project generates enough clean electricity to power approximately 60,000 homes. The solar arrays produce DC power, which is converted to AC at 400V by inverters, then stepped up to 35kV by transformers for grid connection.
Customer Requirements
Key specifications included: 2000kVA capacity, 0.4kV/35kV voltage ratio, S11 efficiency class, IEC 60076 compliance, suitability for outdoor installation in continental climate, and compliance with German VDE standards for grid connection. Transformers must handle harmonic content from PV inverters.
Our Solution
HBTP supplied its S11-series transformers, engineered specifically for solar energy applications. The high-quality CRGO silicon steel core with step-lap mitered joints minimizes no-load losses, while copper windings provide enhanced short-circuit withstand capability and long service life.
| Parameter | Specification |

Quality & Testing
All units passed full type tests including no-load and load loss measurements, induced voltage withstand, lightning impulse, and partial discharge tests. Special attention was given to harmonic loss verification, as solar inverters introduce non-sinusoidal currents that can cause additional heating.
Delivery & Installation
The 45 units were delivered in three batches over 16 weeks to align with the project's phased construction schedule. HBTP provided technical documentation in German and supported the customer's grid connection application process with local utilities.
Project Outcomes
All 45 transformers were successfully energized and are operating at rated capacity. The project was completed on schedule, and the customer has reported excellent performance with no unplanned outages attributed to transformer equipment. HBTP's reliable power distribution solution has contributed to the project's overall success and operational efficiency.
