15 Units of SCB13-800kVA Dry-Type Transformers for a Maglev System in South Korea
Project Overview
HBTP supplied 15 units of SCB13-800/1500 transformers for an urban magnetic levitation (maglev) transit system in Incheon, South Korea. The project represents a significant deployment in the maglev transit sector, requiring transformers engineered for reliable operation under demanding conditions.
Project Background
This urban maglev system connects Incheon International Airport to the city center, using electromagnetic levitation for frictionless, quiet operation. The maglev propulsion system requires precise power quality and specialized DC feeding systems, with transformers installed along the elevated guideway.
Customer Requirements
Specialized transformers for maglev 1500V DC propulsion system, 800kVA capacity, precision power quality for levitation and propulsion control, low noise (≤52dB(A)) for urban elevated guideway, dry-type F1 fire resistance, and compliance with Korean KEC standards.
Our Solution
HBTP supplied its SCB13-series transformers, engineered specifically for maglev transit applications. The high-quality CRGO silicon steel core with step-lap mitered joints minimizes no-load losses, while copper windings provide enhanced short-circuit withstand capability and long service life.

Quality & Testing
All units passed power quality analysis for maglev propulsion systems and DC feeding compatibility. Sound level testing confirmed ≤52dB(A) for urban elevated installation. Standard IEC 60076-11 tests plus Korean KEC requirements were performed.
Delivery & Installation
The 15 units were installed in substations along the elevated maglev guideway. HBTP provided technical support for integration with the maglev propulsion and control systems.
Project Outcomes
All 15 transformers were successfully energized and are operating at rated capacity. The project was completed on schedule, and the customer has reported excellent performance with no unplanned outages attributed to transformer equipment. HBTP's reliable power distribution solution has contributed to the project's overall success and operational efficiency.
