12 Units of S11-1000kVA/11kV Transformers for an Offshore Oil Platform in Brazil
Project Overview
HBTP supplied 12 units of S11-1000/11 transformers for a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel in the Santos Basin, Brazil. The project represents a significant deployment in the offshore oil production sector, requiring transformers engineered for reliable operation under demanding conditions.
Project Background
Brazil's pre-salt oil fields in the Santos Basin are among the most important deepwater discoveries of the past decade. This FPSO vessel processes 150,000 barrels of oil per day and 6 million cubic meters of gas. The vessel's electrical system requires marine-certified transformers for reliable operation at sea.
Customer Requirements
Marine-grade transformers certified by ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), 1000kVA capacity, 11kV/0.4kV ratio, vibration resistance for offshore platform conditions, operation at up to 15° list/trim, and corrosion resistance for salt spray environment.
Our Solution
HBTP supplied its S11-series transformers, engineered specifically for offshore oil production applications. The high-quality CRGO silicon steel core with step-lap mitered joints minimizes no-load losses, while copper windings provide enhanced short-circuit withstand capability and long service life.

Quality & Testing
All units passed ABS type approval testing including vibration, shock, and tilt tests. Marine-grade painting systems were verified for salt spray resistance. Electrical tests were performed per IEC 60076 with additional marine requirements.
Delivery & Installation
Transformers were delivered to the shipyard in Singapore where the FPSO was being converted. HBTP provided technical support for integration into the vessel's electrical system and attended sea trials for initial energization verification.
Project Outcomes
All 12 transformers were successfully energized and are operating at rated capacity. The project was completed on schedule, and the customer has reported excellent performance with no unplanned outages attributed to transformer equipment. HBTP's reliable power distribution solution has contributed to the project's overall success and operational efficiency.
