30 Units of SCB13-1600kVA Dry-Type Transformers for Modular Data Centers in the USA
Project Overview
HBTP supplied 30 units of SCB13-1600/13.8 transformers for a fleet of prefabricated modular data center units in multiple sites across the United States. The project represents a significant deployment in the modular data center sector, requiring transformers engineered for reliable operation under demanding conditions.
Project Background
Modular data centers are prefabricated in a factory and shipped to site as complete units, enabling rapid deployment. This project involved 15 modular data center units, each with 2 transformers for redundancy, deployed across multiple US locations for edge computing and 5G infrastructure support.
Customer Requirements
US-standard voltage (13.8kV primary, 480V secondary), UL listed dry-type transformers, 1600kVA capacity, skid-mounted for integration into modular units, SCB13 efficiency, and compliance with IEEE C57.12 standards and NEC requirements.
Our Solution
HBTP supplied its SCB13-series transformers, engineered specifically for modular data center applications. The high-quality CRGO silicon steel core with step-lap mitered joints minimizes no-load losses, while copper windings provide enhanced short-circuit withstand capability and long service life.

Quality & Testing
All units were UL listed and passed IEEE C57.12 standard tests including dielectric, temperature rise, and sound level. Each transformer was pre-installed and tested within the modular unit before factory shipment, reducing on-site commissioning time.
Delivery & Installation
Transformers were shipped directly to the modular data center manufacturer for integration. HBTP provided technical support for skid mounting and electrical integration, ensuring each modular unit passed factory acceptance testing before deployment.
Project Outcomes
All 30 transformers were successfully energized and are operating at rated capacity. The project was completed on schedule, and the customer has reported excellent performance with no unplanned outages attributed to transformer equipment. HBTP's reliable power distribution solution has contributed to the project's overall success and operational efficiency.
